Political Assistant to the Elected Mayor of Watford
Up to £42,500 per annum. This will be a fixed salary inclusive of all allowances until 31st March 2028

Watford is a bold, ambitious council that thinks big and delivers for its residents. Our newly re elected Liberal Democrat Mayor is seeking a confident, astute Political Assistant to support him during a defining period for the borough and for local government.
Working at the heart of political leadership, you will provide trusted political, policy and communications support to help deliver mayoral priorities, advance manifesto commitments and ensure Watford’s voice is strong and influential during Local Government Reorganisation. You will play a key role in supporting the Mayor to represent residents’ interests clearly and effectively as decisions are taken about the borough’s future.
You will be a self starter with sound political judgement, work at pace and handle sensitive issues with discretion. You will thrive in a close working relationship with a political leader and Portfolio Holders, bringing a strong understanding of Liberal Democrat values and policy, an interest in local government, and excellent communications, research and briefing skills.
You will be confident working autonomously and build relationships across a complex political and organisational landscape.

This is a full-time Fixed Term Contract until 31 March 2028, and in line with The Local Government (Assistants for Political Groups) (Remuneration) (England) Order 2021
We will consider part-time working for the right candidate please specify in your application the hours you can work. The post involves evening and weekend working and requires a high level of flexibility to support the Mayor effectively. Time off will be given for any additional hours worked
