Watford is a bold and progressive urban borough in South West Hertfordshire with a vibrant town centre and excellent transport links. Being close to London, the town has similar growth pressures. Multiple large scale schemes including retail and office schemes are being progressed to meet the town’s growing needs but at the same time we are looking to the future and how we can continue to improve our environment, care for our vulnerable and work with new technology.
Working in one of the Council’s prestigious client groups, Place Shaping and Corporate Performance, this post will provide an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Principal Planner within a busy environment.
The Principal Planner will be a member of the Planning Policy team working on the preparation and delivery of a new local plan.
You will be expected to provide support for the South West Herts Joint Strategic Plan, neighbourhood plans and prepare the necessary evidence base for Policies to be developed.
You will also engage with Members, Communities and Partner organisations to build widespread support for the Plan and provide evidence at planning examinations inquiries.
You will mentor and guide junior members of the team on a wide range of policy work and will be involved in the preparation of the Infrastructure Delivery Plan, Annual Monitoring Report and Community Infrastructure Levy whilst ensuring other planning documents are up to date.
What we are looking for:
The role will suit an experienced and highly motivated Policy Planner with sound project management skills. You will have a strong track record of working on local plans and supplementary guidance which have made a positive impact for local communities.
You will demonstrate a sound understanding of planning legislation and experience of working with politicians and will be use to commissioning and managing consultants.
Excellent communication, written, analytical, IT, GIS and presentation skills are essential.
