Are you an enthusiastic town planner looking to take the first or next step in your career? Do you want to play an important role in a Local Plan examination and contribute towards creating great places in our town? We are looking for a town planner to join our positive, supportive and friendly Planning Policy team and this could be the opportunity for you.
Watford is a small borough, but with that comes a big opportunity to work within an organisation where you can really make a big difference working on local and strategic issues. As Planning Policy Officer, you will play an important role in taking the new Local Plan to Examination in Public later this year. You will have an opportunity to help deliver our progressive and ambitious growth strategy based around the Town Centre, Watford Junction and Riverwell that will shape the town in the years ahead through high quality, high density sustainable development. We are also working collaboratively on a long-term vision through the South West Hertfordshire Joint Strategic Plan to plan and deliver development at a sub-regional scale to 2050.
As an important member of the team, you will be involved in the examination and be responsible for researching and preparing Local Plan documents including planning policies and site allocations, drafting supplementary planning documents, contributing towards masterplans and high quality place-making and undertaking public consultations. Watford has declared a climate emergency and has an ambitious goal to be carbon neutral by 2030 and your work on the Local Plan will help us achieve this.
If you have a ‘can-do’ attitude and looking to make a change, we will support your professional development, welcome flexible working and will provide you with an opportunity to work on a range of interesting and challenging planning projects. Our Town Hall is on the edge of the Town Centre with excellent connections to London and the wider area with the Metropolitan Line, London Overground and other mainline services at Watford Junction located nearby.
