About Watford Borough Council
Watford is an ambitious council that thinks big and lives up to its motto of being bold. Our Liberal Democrat Elected Mayor is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and self-starting Political Assistant to support him achieve his aspirations and goals for Watford ahead of Mayoral elections in May 2026.
What we are looking for:
You will relish working closely with a political leader and his Portfolio Holder team and be keen to make your mark to raise the profile of the Mayor and what he achieves for Watford. You will be passionate about politics and have a strong understanding of Liberal Democrat policy at the national and local level. With a keen interest in local government, you will bring excellent communications experience to the role, including social media, as well as outstanding research and analytical skills.
You will be comfortable working on your own initiative and possess the drive to build successful working relationships, including with the Elected Mayor, councillors, partners and council colleagues.

This is a full-time Fixed Term Contract until May 2026, however we will consider part-time hours, please specify in your application the hours you can work. Please also bear in mind that there may be some evening and weekend meetings that you will need to attend in person.
